ECW on Sci-Fi - June 3, 2008
by Sassy

WWE’s ECW is broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel from Los Angeles, CA.

Ringside announcers: Mike Adamle & Tazz

Ring announcer: Tony Chimel

Workers are backstage removing Armando Estrada’s personal items from the General Manager’s office. Estrada tells them to stop and they inform him that the GM told them to take the things away. Estrada says he is the GM and Theodore Long appears. Oops.

Fatal Four Way:
Winner Faces ECW Champion Kane later tonight
CM Punk from Chicago, IL weighing 225 lbs.
Mr. MITB
Vs.
Tommy Dreamer from Yonkers, NY weighing 265 lbs.
Vs.
Chavo Guerrero from El Paso weighing 215 lbs.
Vs.
John Morrison from Los Angeles, CA weighing 220 lbs.
One half of the WWE Tag Team Champions

Before the match begins, Tazz introduces footage of The Big Show being rammed into the steel steps at One Night Stand. I understand Show got banged up good during the Singapore Cane Match. Show did, however, win the match.

Guerrero comes to the ring without Bam Neely and Morrison comes to the ring without Miz. The match begins with Punk going after Guerrero and Dreamer going after Morrison. Morrison misses a leg drop but Dreamer doesn’t miss the elbow drop. Punk drops Guerrero on top of Morrison and goes for the cover but Dreamer pulls him off, Punk throws a fist and now it’s Morrison going after Guerrero and Punk going after Dreamer. Punk rolls up Guerrero but Morrison breaks it up. Morrison drops Guerrero with a European uppercut and goes after Dreamer but Dreamer sends Morrison out to the floor and then dives on top of him. Guerrero follows up by diving on Dreamer and Punk follows up by diving on Guerrero. Punk is the only one still on his feet but Morrison is up and takes down Punk before going after Guerrero. Punk and Morrison are in the ring and Punk catches Morrison with a high knee but misses the bulldog and Morrison comes off the ropes with a dropkick. Dreamer makes it back into the ring to stop Morrison from getting the win. Dreamer goes for a Boston crab and is stopped by a boot from Guerrero. Guerrero goes for the three amigos to loud jeers from the fans then goes up to the top turnbuckle. Morrison catches Guerrero before he can deliver a frog splash. Both men are on the top turnbuckle but Punk sends them both down, Guerrero to the floor and Morrison upside down on the top rope. Dreamer delivers a kick to Morrison as Punk comes off the top rope and takes down Dreamer. Punk hits Guerrero with the GTS, goes for the cover and gets the three count and the win. Time: 6 minutes
Winner: CM Punk with a GTS

Not a bad opening match. It wasn’t a long match but it was nonstop action and Dreamer actually got a chance to work the ring. Punk will now face Kane for the ECW Championship.

Teddy Long is backstage with Estrada telling him that the Board has named Long ECW General Manager. Long says he will put Estrada in a match tonight against the United States Champion Matt Hardy who is visiting from Smackdown.

Kofi Kingston is at the announcer’s table to watch the upcoming match.

The Gold Standard Shelton Benjamin from Orangeburg, SC weighing 248 lbs.

Vs. Matt Sydal weighing 185 lbs. (already in the ring)

Benjamin immediately picks up Sydal and slams him to the mat the uses the ropes to choke him until the referee makes him break. Sydal tries to go for the roll up but can’t get the pin. Sydal delivers a head scissor and takes Benjamin down and goes for the cover but doesn’t get the three count. Benjamin drops Sydal and stomps on him then picks him up and pounds on him. Benjamin delivers a gut buster. The audience is chanting for Matt Sydal. Obviously they have seen him in Indy action…as have I. Sydal makes it back to his feet, comes off the ropes and is greeted by a clothesline. Benjamin picks Sydal up and sends him through the ropes in front of the announcer’s table. Benjamin and Kingston stare each other down and Benjamin comes out of the ring and faces Kingston. Sydal delivers a punch to Benjamin’s gut but Benjamin picks Sydal up and throws him into Kingston. Benjamin rolls back into the ring and Sydal is counted out. Time: 4 minutes.
Winner: The Gold Standard Shelton Benjamin via count out.

After the match is over, Kingston charges into the ring and takes down Benjamin. Kingston pounds on Benjamin inside the ring and when Benjamin bails out of the ring, Kingston goes after him. Benjamin sends Kingston into the steel steps and Kingston hits them hard…I think he hit his shoulder. If you haven’t seen Matt Sydal in a match before, you still haven’t seen Matt Sydal in a match courtesy of World Wrestling Entertainment.

Matt Hardy from Cameron, NC weighing 236 lbs.
WWE United States Champion, visiting from Smackdown
Vs.
Armando Estrada from Cuba weighing 231 lbs.

The bell rings and I certainly hope Estrada has been practicing. Hardy drops Estrada with a clothesline when Estrada tries to deliver a kick. The fans are pro Hardy and get loud about it. Hardy body slams Estrada to the mat, goes up to the second rope and comes off to deliver an elbow to the back of Estrada’s head. Hardy delivers a twist of fate, goes for the cover and gets the win. Time: 2 minutes.
Winner: Matt Hardy with a twist of fate

Long enters the arena and tells Hardy he might want to stick around and tells the ref not to leave the ring. Long tells Estrada that he will give him one more chance to prove that Estrada is worth his contract. Estrada will now face Colin Delaney.

Armando Estrada Vs. Colin Delaney
Delaney runs into the ring and goes for a quick roll up but Estrada kicks out. Delaney goes for another roll up and gets the three count. Time: Under 1 minute.
Winner: Colin Delaney with a roll up.

I’m not telling WWE how to run their business but I don’t understand why they didn’t put Delaney and Sydal in the ring and LET THEM WRESTLE! I don’t mind watching Hardy in the ring but an actual wrestling match between Delaney and Sydal would have been worth the watch.

Long and Estrada are backstage. Estrada asks Long not to fire him, just keep him around until after the draft. Long tells Estrada that he can wrestle on ECW but not as a contract player, he will have to earn his spot. Ron Simmons shows up to say, “DAMN!” to Estrada.

Main Event, Non-title Match
The Big Red Machine Kane weighing 323 lbs.
ECW Champion
Vs.
CM Punk from Chicago, IL, weighing 225 lbs.
Mr. MITB

This is quite a weight difference but Punk is much faster and can fly higher than Kane. Kane tries to work his way around Kane, but Kane shoves him down to the mat. Punk tries to apply a headlock but gets sent into the ropes and dropped with a shoulder when he comes off the ropes. Punk applies a wristlock but Kane slams Punk to the mat once again. Kane backs Punk up into the corner and delivers an elbow, then starts with the fists. Punk catches Kane with a boot and sends Kane over the top rope to the floor, but Kane lands on his feet and pulls Punk out of the ring, delivers a blow and sends Punk to the floor. Kane rolls Punk back into the ring and goes back to work with fists, keeping Punk in the corner. The ref makes Kane break but Kane picks up Punk and works on his neck and back. Punk lands on his feet when Kane drops him and tries for the high knee, but Kane sends Punk into the turnbuckle and then sends Punk out to the floor and we go to COMMERCIAL BREAK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MAIN EVENT! Back to the ring, Kane has Punk in an abdominal stretch but Punk isn’t giving up. Punk comes off the ropes and tries to put the same hold on Kane but Kane sends Punk down to the mat. Kane delivers a short drop kick off the ropes and goes for the cover but Punk kicks out after the count of one. Kane pummels Punk in the back and then applies a body scissors to continue inflicting damage to Punk’s lower back. Kane is yelling for Punk to give up but Punk is yelling no and uses his elbow to get out of the hold. Punk comes off the ropes and goes for a roll up. Punk gets a two count. Kane delivers a fist that sends Punk crashing to the canvas. Kane delivers a clothesline and goes for the cover. Kane gets a two count before Punk gets a shoulder off the mat. Kane again applies the body scissors. Kane forces Punk over and gets Punk’s shoulders down on the mat twice but Punk manages to get his shoulders up. Punk uses fists to the face to get Kane to release his hold. Kane is back to his feet first and as he leans down to pick up Punk; Punk delivers a boot to Kane’s head. Punk comes off the ropes and delivers a kick but Kane catches Punk with a boot to the face. Punk catches Kane with a high knee and then follows up with two more. Punk goes for the bulldog, but Kane picks Punk up and drops him on his back and goes for the pin. Kane gets a two count. Punk comes off the second rope and hits the bulldog, goes for the cover and gets a two count. Kane delivers a side slam and goes up to the top turnbuckle. Kane comes off the top and hits a clothesline, goes for the cover and only gets a two count before Punk kicks out. The live audience is into the match. Kane goes for the choke slam, but Punk catches him with a high kick. Punk comes off the top rope; Kane catches him by the throat. Punk gets out of the hold and tries for the GTS but can’t do it. Kane delivers the choke slam and gets the win. Time: 11 minutes.
Winner: The Big Red Machine Kane with a choke slam.

Even with the size difference this was a good match. Punk took a lot of hard hits during the match but Kane was at the receiving end of those magnificent kicks delivered by CM Punk.

After the match, Miz and Morrison hit the ring to go after Kane. Kane fights back but he’s outnumbered. I don’t know where Punk went.
